The Half-Banded Sea Perch Hypoplectrodes maccullochi is a small fish that grows only to about 20cm in length. They habitat preference is shallow coastal and estuarine reefs to a depth of about 50 metres. They are commonly found in areas that have good sponge growth as they sit in the sponges searching for prey. They are found on the east coast of Australia from northern New South Wales to eastern Tasmania.
